Two of the most sought-after types of Polynesian artefacts in the world of collecting come to auction at Dore & Rees. These long stone-carved 19th century ‘spear clubs’ known as ‘akatara’ are of a very distinct design and come from the Cook Islands and even the story behind this is interesting - they had been rescued from a friend’s garden in the 1970s, where they had been used to support beans!
Dore & Rees is thrilled to be sponsoring a groundbreaking collaboration between Jingdezhen Ceramics University and the University of Staffordshire who this weekend launched the Legacy & Continuity - Willow Pattern Ceramics and Stories of ‘Other’ exhibition at Spode Museum, running until 29 March 2026.
