  • 2025 has been an exceptional year for Dore & Rees Motoring, marked by the launch of new venues and standout results across every category. Despite challenging market conditions, we were pleased to achieve strong individual sales spanning a wide range of vehicle ages and types.

Highlights include the beautiful original UK-delivered 1957 Porsche 356A Coupe we sold to a local enthusiast at Castle Combe, the gorgeous 1954 Alfa-Romeo 1900C Sprint sold at Thruxton to a new home in the Netherlands, and the fabulous low mileage 2002 Ferrari 550 Maranello sold in March.

Automobilia is a key part of our business, and we’ve had impressive sell-through rates in 2025. We are especially proud of the Stirling Moss Race Suit which made £9,920 at Castle Combe in September, consigned directly from the race mechanic who acquired the suit from the back of Stirling's British Racing Partnership (BRP) race transporter in 1961! Motorcycles continue to be a theme for Dore & Rees Motoring; with over 100 sold during the year, the highlight being (our second) Confederate Hellcat sale, achieving £34,500 in February.

There has been a lot of talk of the highs and lows of the classic car market in 2025, here are five lessons we’ve learnt from this year’s trading:

    1. The best vehicles and collectibles will always be in demand, at market-correct values

    2. Generally speaking, buyers are in charge in the current market, and that won’t change in the near future

    3. The pre-war market isn’t dead at all - after a significant correction in prices, enthusiasts are back in and cars are selling

    4. Anything sporty from the 1980s-90s is absolutely on trend at the moment - if it was desirable then, you can bet it’s in demand now

    5. First and foremost - the golden rule still holds; buy what you love, cherish it, and drive it!

We have exciting new auctions and venues planned for 2026, with our first collectors’ car auction on Saturday 15th March, for which we are currently consigning. If you have an interesting car, bike or item of Automobilia to sell, we’d love to hear from you.

Attached are some highlights from 2025, and lastly, on behalf of all at Dore & Rees Motoring, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

NICK WELLS / HEAD OF MOTORING

A lifelong classic car enthusiast, Nick restored his first classic car, a Triumph Spitfire, whilst still in his teens, and owns it to the present day. The Spitfire is now joined by a brace of coach built 1960s' Lancia GTs, a 1980s Porsche 911, a Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 and an early BMW 6-Series with some interesting history.

Nick studied Business and German at university, spending time with BMW in Munich, followed by a successful career in marketing. Feeling the urge to align his career more closely to his interests, Nick moved into the international classic car auction business some years ago, quickly establishing himself as a specialist and valuer, and later an auctioneer.

Nick has presided over classic auction sales in the UK and Europe, and as far afield as South Africa, and has consulted on valuations and sales of both individual cars and collections. In 2021 Nick was delighted to be invited to join the expert panel of the ITV show The Car Years, taking two cars from a year in motoring history and pitching them against each-other to pick a winner.

Dore & Rees' Motoring department has grown since 2021, the team is joined by local car specialists Mike Reed and Leo Scott, and well-known Classic Motorcycle specialist John Nash.

When not tinkering with old cars Nick can either be found in the garden or on his road bike, running for his chosen charity Trinity Hospice in London, or enjoying his new hobby of clay pigeon shooting.
