History
Established in 1868, Dore & Rees was once part of a bustling Vicarage Street.
Although many of the other businesses have disappeared, the saleroom has an enduring presence in the gothic-style building resembling a former chapel with thriving sales as an auction house and estate agents. For a time, the premises was also a Magic Lantern Theatre long before the advent of cinema and a ticket office for the Union Castle shipping line.
In 1984, Mark Rees purchased the saleroom with his name added to the long line of valuers and auctioneers who have conducted business here.
Since the 1980s Dore & Rees have held fortnightly sales of antiques, contemporary furniture and collectibles, and the name continues to have a lasting resonance as landmark of dynamic and vibrant Frome.
