Mary Rich

The 16 June Interiors auction features ceramics by Mary Rich, a well-known British potter, working in Cornwall at her Cowlands Creek Pottery studios.

In the early years she worked with David Leach and Harry and May Davis. Producing finely thrown pieces decorated in a geometric style, Mary uses precious metal lustres to highlight the form.

The pieces take many hours to produce, hand thrown in porcelain, with several layers of colour applied to the raw clay to achieve a deep lustre base for the fine decoration. Her influences include Islamic and Far Eastern ceramics. Mary is a Fellow of the Craftsmen Potters Association, the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and the Cornwall Crafts Association.
